Prayer Chaplains

An experience of supported, healing and empowering prayer

A Prayer Chaplain will…

  • Listen
  • Observe
  • Validate
  • Empower

....as they pray with you following our Sunday Services or on the phone.

A Unity Prayer Chaplain is someone who supports you on your spiritual journey…someone who will pray with you and for you.

Prayer Chaplains

A Unity Prayer Chaplain is someone who creates and holds a sacred space with you, lovingly listens to you, and holds what is heard in confidence. A Unity Chaplain is compassionate, available, nurturing, and accepting.

The purpose of the Prayer Chaplain program is to create a congregation that feels cared for and connected. It is based on God as our Source. God is the center, head and heart of all we do.

There is nothing quite as comforting as being lovingly supported during times of challenge or crisis or even celebration. It is always helpful to have a hand to reach out to, a compassionate heart to listen and understand. A few caring words can bring inspiration to nourish your spirit.

Unity Chaplains are NOT counselors, they don’t solve problems or judge. They simply hold a sacred space-- they listen, they pray.

Members of Unity on Greenville receive monthly "Wellness Calls" for a Prayer Chaplain. (Non-members may also receive such calls upon request.)

Are you called to serve as a Prayer Chaplain?

If you are guided to step up to a higher level of commitment on your spiritual journey, serving as a Unity Prayer Chaplain may just be right for you!  You will be embarking on a path to deepen your own awareness of God as Source, to hold spiritual space for others through being a sacred presence, listening, and positive, affirmative prayer.

The purpose of the Prayer Chaplain program is to create a congregation that feels cared for and connected. It is based on God as our Source, and the unique Unity approach to prayer, positive Affirmative Prayer.  Prayer Chaplains receive intensive training in Unity’s transformative Affirmative Prayer, and thus become quite proficient at opening to the Christ within who leads prayer in and through them as they support and pray with congregants on Sundays, over the phone, and in hospital visits.

To be a Prayer Chaplain…

  • We ask that you have been active at Unity on Greenville for at least 6 months, are a member (or willing to become a member by Sept. 15), and are willing to make a one year commitment to serve as a Chaplain (through September, 2011).

  • The time commitmentincludes attending the September 17 - 19 retreat (details on second page), monthly 1 ½ hour training meetings, monthly prayer phone calls to congregants (approximately 1 hour), and offering prayer support with congregants following  the 11:00 am Sunday Service on a rotating schedule (usually every 4 to 6 weeks) for  10 to 20 minutes.
  • Unity on Greenville provides an extensive training program beginning with an in-depth weekend retreat September 17-19 and monthly Chaplain meetings, and you will be given loving support throughout your service as a Prayer Chaplain.

  • A one year commitment is required after the training, if you decide that you want to be a Chaplain.

The Prayer Chaplaincy Program is unique to Unity and does not provide certification or chaplain licensing for the State of Texas.

If you feel that you are ready to step up to a higher level of commitment on your spiritual journey, this may be the opportunity for you. You will be embarking on a path to deepen your own awareness of God as Source, to hold that spiritual space for others through listening and prayer.

Questions about the Prayer Chaplain program will be answered during a brief informational meeting on Sunday, August 1, August 8 and August 22 at 12:15 pm in the Upper Room.  Feel free to attend any of the session, or talk to one of our Prayer Chaplains or Rev. Steve.

If you wish to apply for the program, please contact Rev. Steve (214.826.5683 or by email: revstevecolladay@dallasunity.org) by September 6.
